Stakeholders urge FG to focus on climate change,erosion, others

Stakeholders in the environment sector have made an appeal to the federal government to develop models that would focus on issues of desertification, deforestation, erosion, and climate change in the country.
 
They spoke at Top Management Retreat organised by Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja, said this has become imperative to drastically address challenges of preserving the earth we live.
 
Minister of environment, Dr.Mohammed Abubakar said that there should be collective efforts geared towards protecting and conserving the entire nation from environmental and other catastrophic challenges.

He added that the platform would provide assistance to ensure policy director and focus, necessary for the government to consider unlocking investment opportunities available in the sector.
 
“We would be guided by resolved agenda to collectively take far-reaching decisions that would address very serious issues of the environment. Better coordination is key to achieving the vision.”
 
Also, Minister of State, Sharon Ikeazor said: “we have all gathered to pulling in energy that has hitherto been competing for attention on activities, and to focus on finding ways of executing the mandates”.
 
“Let proffer solutions by identifying opportunities that could be deployed in solving challenges. There is no problem that does not have a solution if we think outside the box, and is transparent,” she added.
 
Another speaker, permanent secretary of the ministry, Ibukun Odusote urged participants to be straight to the point and objective in deliberations to lift up the all-important sector of the economy.
 
Conservator General of National Park Service, Ibrahim Goni stressed that they want to develop a system that would meet the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians and indeed foreign tourists.
 
“In line with the IUCN standard, the service would require additional 1319 rangers to fully cover the seven national parks in the geopolitical zones except for the southeast axis, where there is no park.”
