Speaker caution against politicising law making process

Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Abel Peter Diah, yesterday cautioned against politicising law making process in the sate and the country, as no bill could be passed without due parliamentary procedures.

He expressed sadness that some individuals have personalised the Anti-Grazing law in the state and pointing accused fingers at members of the House.

He said the lawmakers went through relevant procedure, as required by law before considering the bill.

Diah, who stated this on the floor of the House during budget defense by various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) said: “All laws made in the state and in every parliament in the world passed through public hearings.”

Wondering why some few individuals have continued to dent the good image of the members of the House, he said, “I stand to say that for every bill that finally become law must pass through public hearing.” 

Seeking support from members of the public for the state to achieve its dreams of becoming one of the leading states in the country, especially in the areas of peace and rapid growth, he stressed, “let us not politicise the process of making laws.”

The Anti-Grazing law, which he said was not designed to cage any ethnic group but to foster unity among the people of the state irrespective of religion, politics and ethnic backgrounds, according to him, would create more job opportunities for the youths of the state.
