South West APC chairmen hold crisis meeting on Ondo poll
• Give clean bill of health to Kekemeke
Southwest chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rose from an emergency meeting, yesterday, appealing to members to be calm and not allow fifth columnists rob the party of victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries.
Akin Oke from Oyo, Henry Ajomale (Lagos), Roqeeb Adeniji (Ogun), Gboyega Famodun (Osun) and Jide Awe (Ekiti) expressed concern over the spate of distractions and turbulence in Ondo State and assured all aspirants that the party would be fair by conducting a free exercise.
They also appealed to the aspirants and party faithful to maintain peace and not allow enemies of the APC have their way.
“We will like to state that the party will conduct a free, fair, open and credible primary election devoid of any interference from any quarters, as was done in Kogi and Edo States. We appeal to all our party members and the governorship aspirants, in particular, to remain calm, prevail on their individual supporters, to allow peace to reign for the conduct of a transparent primary election that would usher in a candidate that would be acceptable to the generality of the people of Ondo State,” the forum said.
It also exonerated embattled Ondo State APC chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, of endorsing any aspirant for the position, saying he has no role in the process and conduct of the primaries, as an oversight team would be put together by the party’s national leadership.
Kekemeke was sacked, last week, by some aggrieved party chieftains, who accused him of acting the script of a national leader of the APC by endorsing a particular candidate for the gubernatorial seat.
A caretaker committee was set up by the chieftains to run the affairs of the party until after the primaries.
But the forum, while giving Kekemeke a clean bill of health, said he, alongside members of his executive, have been able to boost the party’s acceptance with the people of the state.
