Six feared dead in Edo cult clash

NO fewer than six persons have been reportedly killed in a renewed cult war in Benin City, Edo state.

The clash, which reportedly started between suspected members of Eiye and Maphite groups now have members from Aiye and Buccaneer in conflict that had reportedly claimed lives in St. Saviour, New Benin, Zabayo and other areas in the city.

The Guardian gathered that the clash was as a resulted from the sharing of booties from recent general elections from politicians among the leaders and an alleged beating to death of a member of a group during the National Assembly elections.‎

The latest killings was said to have occurred around Second East Circular and New Lagos Road

At House No.13B, New Lagos Road in Benin City, a man suspected to be between 27 and 30 years was gunned down by three gunmen in his barbing salon at about 10.00a.m.

A 65-year-old witness said the gunmen walked into the victim’s store and shot him at close range.

“The first gunman entered and shot him on the head. The second one came and shot him, and the third one used his gun to shake the victim (Patrick) to confirm that he is dead,” she stated.

A member of a rival group‎ referred to as Emperor was said to have been killed on Zabayo Road, by Stadium Road

Another victim, a member of Buccaneer, was said to have left Aras, opposite Air Force Barracks on Airport Road after attending a birthday party when he was attacked and killed by his assailant.

The State Police spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwochei told The Guardian on phone that some arrests had been made.

“I cannot give you the accurate figure but we are compiling and once we are through, we will parade them. We are investigating.”
