PDP crisis will soon end, says Dokpesi

Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff’s camp in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that a f‎ormer chairman of the opposition political grouping’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, would not be re-admitted until he has answered the query sent to him for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities during the last general election in Imo State.

A statement signed on behalf of Sheriff by‎ Bernard Miko said: “‎If the chief is desirous of returning as member of the BoT, he should re-apply to the party with his response to the pending query for consideration.‎

“‎The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has been drawn to the status of Chief Tony Anenin as a member of BoT of the PDP.

“Party members and loyalists will recall that the NWC issued a query to Chief Anenih in April 2015 as part of disciplinary procedures for his anti-party activities in Imo State during the 2015 general elections in line with Article 57(4) of the PDP Constitution 2012 (as amended). Chief Anenih did not respond to the query but chose to tender a letter of resignation as BoT member. Up till date, the query remains unanswered and his resignation remains valid.

“Any effort to re-admit the chief will have to follow due process which is well known to all party members. If the chief is desirous of returning as a member of the BoT, he should re-apply to the party with his response to the pending query for consideration. Party members are hereby assured that no individual or group will be prejudiced in the enforcement of discipline and the application of the rule of law.”

Meanwhile, former Chairman of Daar Communications and chairmanship aspirant of the PDP, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has expressed optimism that the crisis rocking the party would soon end.

He also denied speculation that he had stepped down for Chief Bode George, another strong contender for the office.

Dopkesi, who was in Ekiti State at the weekend to seek support of the party members for his ambition, said his desire to bring peace back to the party and reposition it to win elections would not support the call to step down for George.
