Seven injured in Benue gas tanker explosion
No fewer than seven persons escaped death after a gas tanker exploded on Monday at the premises of Bolek Filling Station located opposite the Benue State University College of Health Sciences in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The Guardian learnt that the seven victims, among whom were two members of staff of the filling station, two students of the Benue State University (BSU) and three other customers sustained severe burns and are now receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi.
The Manager of the filling station, John Ekpo, said the incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. that fateful day shortly after a gas tanker had completed discharging gas at the station. Ekpo said the gas tanker was trying to move out of the station when suddenly it exploded leaving everyone within the station in disarray.
