Senators mourn Alex Badeh, urge FG investigation

Members of the Nigeria Senate on Wednesday mourned the death of former Chief of Defense Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh during plenary.

The senators observed a minute silence in honour of the former defence chief, who was killed by unknown gunmen along the Keffi-Abuja road on Tuesday.

Senate President Bukola Saraki noted that the “Former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, was a man who served this country so well”, but reiterated the need for improved security in Nigeria.

”We still need to do more on this issue of insecurity. The security agents should ensure that they provide better security to the country.”

The Senate urged the Nigerian Government to investigate the circumstances surrounding Badeh’s assassination and requested the security agencies to search and rescue his personal staff held hostage by the assailants.

The deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, paid his condolences to the family of the late Air Chief Marshal, while commending his efforts in fighting insurgency all over the world.

“He went through this risky profession and survived, only to be killed by the same people he fought to protect. It is even sadder that these killers may not be found, based on past cases,” Ekweremadu said.

The deputy senate president hopeful the perpetrators will be found and brought to book, appealed to the relevant authorities to get to the root of the matter

“It is time we ensure that those who kill people are found and punished. For such a great country in Africa, we must ensure the safety of our citizens.”

Senator Shehu Sani paid tribute to “the great man who served this nation” before highlighting the security challenge in the country.

“The government as a whole should take the issue of security in the nation very serious,” the senator representing Kaduna central.

“Issues like this should bring to light that matters of security are not only a concern to the common man, but to the entire nation. Let us make sure that this does not become another unresolved case.”
