Senate plans probe of contractors over TetFund abandoned projects

The Senate has mandated its Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund to investigate the contractors who collected monies belonging to Tetfund in the past and failed to execute contracts to specification.

This position was adopted yesterday following the motion sponsored by Jibrin Barau titled: “The need for an investigative audit in respect of contracts that were awarded and paid for in the past by TetFund but are yet to be executed.”

Barau, who noted that TetFund had awarded numerous contracts nationwide for various projects in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to improve quality of teaching, learning and research, alleged that the contractors only collected monies for the projects and walked away without executing them.

He said such a situation contributed to the existing deficits in the infrastructural needs of all tertiary institutions across the country and urged the Senate to renew its commitment to exposing corrupt practices.
