THE Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has described the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade as a bridge builder, great stakeholder in the unity of the nation and towering personality whose contributions would continue to resonate in years to come.

Besides, the Senate has also assured Nigerians of its unalloyed support to President Muhammadu Buhari in its drive to change the fortune of the nation and place it on a pedestal of rapid development.

The Upper Chamber of the National Assembly spoke yesterday in a message in Osogbo, Osun State when a delegation paid a condolence visit to the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on the demise of Oba Sijuwade.

Senator Adamu Abdulahi, former governor of Nasarawa State who led the delegation, stated that the absence of the monarch would be felt because of his concern for the growth, development and progress of the nation.

The Senate in a letter signed by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said the demise of the Oba, who is a worthy ambassador and a pride of the Yoruba ethnic nationality is a sad event.

The letter reads, “The Senate notes with sadness the demise of the Kabiyesi who was a worthy ambassador for Nigeria and a symbol of pride for the Yoruba race. “I pray Almighty Allah grant you the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

May the soul of Oba Sijuwade find Al-jannat Firdaus, Amen.” He said the Senate would give all necessary support and cooperation to President Buhari in his quest to reposition the society on a path of honour that would change the fortune of the nation for better.

In his response, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, who represented Governor Rauf Aregbesola urged members of the Upper Chamber to put aside their past differences ‎and work together to move the nation forward.
