The Christian Reformed Church-Nigeria (CRC-N), yesterday, said the suspended Ruga settlement project was designed to grab land of sacked communities for Fulani herdsmen.

The Christian Reformed Church-Nigeria (CRC-N), yesterday, said the suspended Ruga settlement project was designed to grab land of sacked communities for Fulani herdsmen.

The Church made the observation in a communique issued at the end of its 117th General meeting held in Takum council of Taraba State.

The body urged the Federal Government to seek for alternative ways of settling herders, rather than seeking to grab land of communities sacked by them for Ruga project.

In the communiqué signed by both its National President who is also the National Vice President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev (Dr.) Caleb O.S. Ahima and General Secretary, Rev. Sagarga Nuvalga Gargea, the Church,

“condemns in strong terms the flagrant miscarriage of justice in the country, where the authority watch herdsmen sack some communities only for them to come up with the contentious Ruga project that is aimed at grabbing the land of the sacked for herdsmen.”

The body urged the governments of Taraba and Benue states to as a matter of urgency bring to an end incessant upheavals between the Tiv and Jukun that had led to massive destruction of life and property.
