Rotary partners government in fight against out-of-school children

As part of efforts to tackle the challenge faced by the country’s out-of-school children, Rotary Club of Ikeja, District 9110 recently moved to lift basic education within the district through the donation of two blocks of classrooms and furniture to Ikeja Junior Secondary School.

As part of efforts to tackle the challenge faced by the country’s out-of-school children, Rotary Club of Ikeja, District 9110 recently moved to lift basic education within the district through the donation of two blocks of classrooms and furniture to Ikeja Junior Secondary School.

Besides, the group in collaboration with the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission also trained 60 teachers in understanding new teaching methods in the sciences, mathematics, and chemistry.

President of the club, Mr. Olumuyiwa Fagbola enumerated their project areas to include peace and conflict resolutions, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, economic and community development as well as support for the Rotary Foundation.

Fagbola also disclosed that the group provided economic intervention project to the tune of N1million to market men and women in Isolo area under the club’s empowerment programme, adding that Rotary had played significant roles in the end polio eradication awareness campaign in the locality and participated in administering polio vaccines to children.

He spoke at a briefing on the activities of the club head at the Lagos International Hotel, Ikeja.

Speaking on the theme, ”We see” Tunji Ola attributed the resounding successes achieved by the club in all of its projects to the cooperation among members and deployment of their professional expertise in different fields of human endeavor, saying the various skills set remain a huge asset to the club.

Describing Rotary as a way of life and international in all its activities, he declared that ‘if any member is not noticeable in any given community something must have gone amiss’.

“We see’ and don’t just do good without conducting a needs assessment, interface with the people and tailor the projects to solve needs, saying the organisation is not an alternative to the government but an intervention group to cushion sufferings of the people.
