Robbers behead police sergeant, security men in Ilorin

Armed robbers on Saturday night attacked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) mega station in Ilorin, Kwara State capital. The gunmen were said to have struck after workers at the station had left the station for their homes.

During the bloody incident, the armed robbers beheaded a sergeant and some security personnel attached to the fuel station. It was also gathered that the robbery incident occurred while the security men were already asleep.

Checks yesterday revealed that the NNPC mega station was under lock and key, throwing residents into panicky situation that another round of fuel scarcity was imminent.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident. He added that “information is true, but the command is investigating the issue.”

Meanwhile, four members of a dreaded cult group who have been on the wanted list of Lagos State police command for their participation in various deadly attacks that have claimed lives of many innocent people have been arrested by ‘decoy’ operatives of Ogun State police command at the weekend.

The suspects: Owolabi Rasaq, 28, of No 3, Ibo Igunnu Street, Bariga; Chidi Michael aka Chiboy, 26, of Adelepo Street, Odonla, Ikorodu; Sunday Adetiba aka Sian, 30, of No 11 Jagu Lawan Street Ogijo; and Idris Jimoh, 27, aka Aloma of No 12 Akinyemi Street Liberty Estate, Itaoluwo, were all arrested following an intelligence report received by the DPO Ogijo division, CSP Suleman Baba Muhammed, that the cultists were having a nocturnal meeting in a hideout somewhere in Ogijo on how to carry out another attack in Ogun State.

According to a police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, “Upon receiving the report, the DPO and his men swung into action and stormed the hideout where the four suspects were arrested. The investigation further revealed that the arrested suspects have been on the wanted list of Lagos state police command for series of deadly attacks leading to the death of many innocent members of the public. They have all made confessional statements of being members of a dreaded cult group as well as their involvement in various cult-related clashes in Lagos and Ogun States”.

Meanwhile the commissioner of police CP Bashir Makama has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
