Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has said that the task of reviving the nation’s economy from recession should not be seen as the sole responsibility of the Presidency, but one that requires the collective contribution of all Nigerians.

Dogara, spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital when he led some members of the House to pay a courtesy visit on Governor Ibikunle Amosun at the Isale-Igbein Government House.

He stressed that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the challenges confronting the nation were solved as soon as possible, noting that the call by the Governors’ Forum on President Mohammadu Buhari to declare “a state of emergency” on the nation’s economy was a welcome development.

While revealing that the National Assembly would also take a position on the matter when it resumes, the Speaker noted that President Buhari and his cabinet members were doing their best to ensure that the country overcome the economic recession.

“I am happy that certain steps are being taken by the Presidency to resolve the economic challenges and I was told just yesterday that there was a retreat in the Presidency about the challenges we are facing in the country,” he declared, saying that the situation was not peculiar to Nigeria.

His words: “These challenges are not novel, a lot of societies in the past have passed through these kind of challenges but it is always men and women of those generations that will always stand up to the challenges and make sure that they solve them.

“It is a collective responsibility as citizens of this nation to combat the challenges and I thank God that there is this rallying call from the Governors, I believe that the National Assembly have a position on it, I do not want to let the cat out the bag yet but I know that we will have our own position as soon as we reconvene,” Dogara affirmed.Dogara commended Governor Amosun for the various developmental projects in the state and for providing quality leadership for the people of the State.
