A suspected member of the notorious cult gang, Badoo, presently causing mayhem in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, was yesterday arrested by residents of Ayegbami community in Igbogbo.

It was gathered that the suspect had gone to the area to perpetuate his acts of illegality when he was seen by one of the residents. According to one Shakiru Seidu, a resident of Igbogbo/Baiyeku area, the vigilance of the residents paid off after being victims of the gang severally.

He said: “The security challenges ravaging Ikorodu recently has made residents to become more security conscious, which led to the arrest of the suspected Badoo cultist. A resident saw a man that was half naked with a hard stone in his hand attempting to gain access to a house at Felefon Street.

“He quickly raised an alarm and culprit quickly hid the stone in his hand inside a big bowl he found nearby, placed it upon his head on the pretence of going to fetch water and fled.

“His trick failed him as people trooped out en mass and gave him a hot chase till he was finally nabbed at Akindana Street, Ayegbami in Igbogbo.

“He promised to give the youth who got hold of him a sum of N5,000. When he saw their determination to kill him, he increased it to N10,000 but they refused to yield to his offer. They dealt mercilessly with him before the intervention of the CDA chairman, Baba Awe and Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, who were immediately notified of the development.

“He was later handed over to the police for further interrogation to avoid another incidence of jungle justice. At the police station, the police handed the suspect over to one of the community leaders, Alhaji Jelili Abubakri and members of the Neighborhood Safety Corp to take him to Ikorodu General Hospital for necessary treatment before bringing him back for further interrogation.”

After the suspect was handed over to the police, Seidu said the newly transferred Ikorodu Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP I.O. Lawal, addressed residents and gave out his direct telephone lines for them to alert him on any criminal matters.

However, the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, said there was nothing like a Badoo suspect being arrested yesterday.
