The House of Representatives on Wednesday mandated its Committee on Police Affairs to probe the management of N10 billion released to the Police to combat insecurity in the country.

The house also directed the committee to ascertain how N8 billion earmarked for the Force to upgrade its training colleges preparatory to the recruitment of 10,000 personnel was spent.

This followed a motion by Rep. Johnbosco Shekarau (Plateau-PDP), who said that rate of kidnapping, profile murders and other crimes had increased in spite of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) claims to the contrary.

He said that the IGP, Solomon Arase, had claimed that equipment, including surveillance cameras, had been procured and deployed across the country.

Shekarau expressed concern that Police training colleges had remained dilapidated in spite of the N8 billion released for their rehabilitation to accommodate prospective job seekers in ongoing recruitment exercise.

The motion was unanimously adopted by the members.

The house urged the committee to submit its report within two weeks.
