PSN reverses self, endorses proposed TAS

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has endorsed the proposed Tiered Accreditation System (TAS), saying if well implemented, it will not only bring greater control in the pharmaceutical space, but also ensure professionalism in the industry.

Earlier, the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (APCN) had faulted the proposal by the Federal Ministry of Health to create three tiers of eligible players in the sale of Over The Counter (OTC) drugs in Nigeria.

But speaking with journalists yesterday in Abuja, PSN President, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, explained that the PSN initially opposed the move because it did not fully understand what it meant and because there has not been robust discussions of the issue.

Ohuabunwa, however, noted that after a stakeholders meeting facilitated by PACFaH@Scale where the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) explained the workings of the pilot scheme, stakeholders were convinced that it was worth supporting.
