‘Provide pedestrian bridge at Toyota Bus Stop’

Lagos State House of Assembly

Against the backdrop of incessant killings of pedestrians on the corridor, the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday called on the Federal Government to urgently see to the provision of pedestrian bridges on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, particularly the ever-busy Toyota Bus Stop.

While that may take a while, the House called on the state government to ensure markings such as Zebra Crossing signs on the risky axis and enforce compliance, to reduce the carnage.

Lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo II Constituency, Jude Idimogu, who brought the matter to the floor under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, lamented that several road users had lost their lives while crossing from one side of the road to another on the expressway.

Of particular concern to Idimogu is the Toyota bus stop, where cases of hit and run on Ladipo traders are a daily occurrence. He said this was the case because the state government had not heeded to the call for a pedestrian bridge around the area.

In support of the motion, lawmaker representing Surulere II Constituency, Desmond Elliot, disclosed that he lost his mother-in-law on the road as the woman was trying to cross the expressway, when she went to buy foodstuff at Daleko Market, Iyana-Isolo bus-stop, also in the area.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, agreed that the bridge was important as he maintained that it is a Federal Government road.
