State varsity VC urges mercy on graduates

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Benue State have protested against their ban from participating in the next batch of mobilisation. The Guardian leant that on October 2, this year when the NYSC portal opened for registration, graduates from Benue State University (BSU), Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) and Fidei Polytechnic, among others could not access the portal for registration.

It was further learnt that the graduates were banned from registering because some of them were found culpable in age falsification.State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Eno Awakessien, who received the protesters promised to channel their demand to the appropriate quarters.

Vice Chancellor of Benue State University, Prof. Msugh Kembe, in a reaction said the school had written to inform the NYSC about the development. He however said the school had just received a reply from the NYSC that it was studying the matter to ascertain the cause, and would apply commensurate sanctions where necessary.

The protesters, who carried placards with different inscriptions, expressed their displeasure at the blanket decision by the NYSC against all graduate from the affected institutions.

While no definite response has been officially heard from the NYSC, it was alleged that a two-year ban has been placed on the affected institutions not to presente graduates for the NYSC.
