Seven presidential candidates and aspirants in the 2019 general elections have called for unconditional release of Mr. Omoyele Sowore.

The presidential candidates and aspirants under the aegis of Third Force Forum in a statement lampooned the Presidency of being intolerant of criticisms.

The statement, signed by presidential candidate of Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), Tope Fasua; presidential aspirant, Labour Party (LP), Okey Samuel Mbonu; 2019 presidential aspirant, All Progressives Congress (APC), S.K.C. Ogbonnia; 2019 presidential aspirant, Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), Thomas-Wilson Ikubese; 2019 presidential candidate, Change Nigeria Party (CNP), Emmanuel Etim; 2019 presidential aspirant, Young Progressives Party (YPP), Ayodele O. Favour and 2019 presidential aspirant, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Clement Jimbo, said that President Muhammadu Buhari should be reminded that the constitution of Nigeria does not allow violation of human rights.

The candidates implored Buhari to immediately order the security agencies “to immediately release Sowore unconditionally to maintain peace in our country, and to deter further national and international repercussions on this matter.

“We, the coalition of 2019 presidential aspirants and candidates, under the aegis of Third Force Forum, hereby demand the unconditional release of one of our compatriots, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, who was arrested by an agency of the government on August 2, 2019, pursuant to plans for a protest march across Nigeria, which is within his full constitutional rights toward “Freedom of Expression” pursuant to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We must also remind you, the President, that to refrain from adhering to these national and international rights, is to invite anarchy onto the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Therefore, we implore you to immediately order the applicable agencies of the state to immediately release Mr. Omoyele Sowore unconditionally to maintain peace in our country, and to deter further national and international repercussions on this matter.”
