Power generation hits 4,285 megawatts

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that the country’s power generation has increased from 3,810 megawatts recorded on Sept. 8, 2016 to 4,285.90 megawatts on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the power generation record was reported in the website of “Nigerian Electricity System Operator’’ on Friday.
TCN said that 4,285.90 megawatts was the total output by power generation companies, and had been transferred to the 11 distribution companies across the country.
Electricity generation in the country has been stable in the last two months, rising from about 2, 983 megawatts to over 4, 000 megawatts.
Although power has improved, many parts of the country have remained with supply owing to problems with the distribution companies, including provision of pre-payment meters.
Acting Chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Anthony Akah, had recently disclosed that no fewer than four million electricity consumers in the country were awaiting supply of the meters.
Akah said that although the commission had improved on metering system, unavailability of meter manufacturing companies was hindering the maximum provision of the product to Nigerians.
He said that the commission would sanction any distribution company which failed to comply with directives relating to the distribution of meters.

It’s no longer a new thing that during the raining season power generation gets to increase since we are using mono-power generation systerm which is hydro electric…. the story will change if this Government refuse to act wise by investing in other source of power especially SOLAR…. and also resolve lingering crises in the NIGER DELTA areas which was responsible for the previous power reduction through pipe vandalism… i will also submit that the Government should save/gather Gases that are being flered dairly…. moreover more can be gotten through proper waste managentment systems… STATES GOVERNMENTS SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS, JUST AS LAGOS IS DOING, ALTHOUGH MORE STILL NEEDED TO BE DONE BY LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT.
Yes now it has increased – because is raining season! what is the plan to sustain it after this raining season? or we will go back to square one; complaining, shifting blames, shouting all hands must be on deck simply because we did not do the right thing at the right time, we don’t learn, our lackadaisical attitude and because we lack ideas and plans to sustain and to improve on what we have in excess during the period of abundant. Now is the time to start thinking of Plan B, ( Solar, Defining strategy to store excess gas now, using this opportunity of power availability now, to determine ; faulty distribution lines, substation with outdated and weak transformers so that all these can be corrected as they cause major blow in Power distribution in Nigeria). Now we need to act so that even with little, it will be circulated and manage well. It is only in Nigeria we count illusion as success, we have forgotten that reality will soon catch up with us. I rest my case as am standing by watching them making figures without proper strategy and planning.
