Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest two suspects

The Kogi Police has rescued a victim of abduction that was tucked away in the booth of his own car while his kidnappers were on the run. This was contained in a statement issued by the command yesterday.

The statement gave the name of the victim as Sunday Amupitan who was abducted from his residence in Kabba on July 19. The statement signed by the police Public Relation Officer, ASP William Aya, said that a police patrol team moved to the scene after receiving distress calls from the victim’s neighbors.

Policemen, on getting to the scene, sighted the kidnappers speeding away in the victim’s car with registration number, Lagos APP 444 DA, the statement said.

Aya said that the officers decided to follow them, which forced the kidnappers to abandon the car. During the course of their frantic effort to escape with their victim, the kidnappers knocked down three motorcyclists who sustained various degrees of injury.

According to Aya, through the information in a recovered mobile phone from the scene, the officers were able to arrest a suspect identified as Ayodele, a 30-year old man who lives on Garupa Street, Kabba. Ayodele confessed to being a member of the five-member gang that carried out the kidnap of Amupitan. .

Aya indicated that the confession of Ayodele led to the arrest of another member of the gang, one Tunde Emmanuel. He said that they are still on the trail of the three other members of the gang.
