Police rescue former Ohanaeze secretary general from abductors, arrest one
The Police in Enugu, yesterday, secured the release of former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nduka Eya, from his abductors.
Eya was kidnapped on Thursday night from his Ezilo Street residence in Independence Layout, Enugu, at about 9.35pm alongside his driver.
His abductors had made contact with the family to confirm that he was in their custody and demanded N15m ransom for his release.
However, the Police, through the Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, stated: “He was rescued unhurt by operatives following an operation carried out in a forest along Enugu/Abakiliki Expressway, in which one suspect, identified as Chibundu Amadi was arrested. Recovered from him is a locally made gun and he is helping the operatives in their investigations.”
Amaraizu, who did not state whether any ransom was paid, disclosed that Chief Eya has reunited with his family, as manhunt for other suspects in the incident has been intensified.
