IN an effort to prevent the yearly clashes between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in the zone, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone Three, Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar, has ordered the three Commands to immediately begin patrol of routes anticipated to be flashpoints.

Abubakar, who gave the order in Gombe during a tour of the Gombe State Police Command, said the patrol should last till around March 2016 when harvesting must have been concluded.

The AIGP said most of the herdsmen are foreigners who had caused untold hardship and destroyed millions of naira worth of foodstuff.

Abubakar said that his own farm was also invaded by the herdsmen four days ago living immeasurable level of destruction.

The AIGP urged the traditional rulers in the state to intensify their “eagle eye” on their communities and work hand in hand with the police in the fight against crime.

He said the zone had suffered untold devastation of lives and property in the hands of insurgents, especially in the last three years but gave assurance that with the intensified onslaught on the insurgents, their activities are gradually waning away.
