Police move Melaye to DSS medical facility in Abuja

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has moved Senator Dino Melaye to a medical facility owned by the Department of State Service (DSS) in Abuja for further medical attention. Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, who disclosed this in a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, said the relocation became necessary due to a complaint from the senator that he was not well.

The Police spokesman denied media reports that Melaye was moved by masked armed policemen to an undisclosed location and that his whereabouts was unknown, saying the Police medical team at the Police Hospital, Abuja, had certified that the senator was well and healthy to stand trial after treating him.

According to him: “Melaye, under investigation and currently in Police custody on a 14-day remand warrant obtained from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on January 9, this year, for the offence of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide, committed on July 19, last year, when Melaye and his armed thugs attacked Police personnel, shot and wounded Danjuma Saliu on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State, has been taken to another government hospital for further medical attention.

“The Police Investigation Team obtained a 14-day Remand Warrant from the FCT High Court on January 9 to keep Melaye in Police custody for investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide against him till January 23, this year.”He added: “The Police officer, Danjuma Saliu, is yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and still under intensive medical care in the hospital.“Melaye will be prosecuted, along with other suspects, on completion of investigation.”
