Imo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a year-one student of Building Technology of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, near Owerri, Anthony Chinweotito Emmanuel, by his caretaker outside the campus.

The command’s spokesman, Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident yesterday, noted that investigations had since commenced unraveling the mystery behind the killing.

According to the report, there had been disagreements between the caretaker of the Ezinwanne Lodge, making him to allegedly hit the deceased with wood on his stomach. The student was said to have died in a hospital.

“The students had argued that they would not pay for the rent between March 2020 and January 2021 during the COVID-19 lockdown, but the caretaker, who insisted they must pay, locked the tap.

“The students had opened the water tap with an object. When the caretaker destroyed the water source, a quarrel ensued, leading to the caretaker hitting Emmanuel with a wood,” an eyewitness said.
