The Benue Police Command says it has recovered the body of one of the missing two officers in weekend attack on a patrol team at Akpam near Azege in Logo Local Council of the state.

In a statement yesterday in Makurdi by the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu, the command said the body was brutally cut as well as the eyes, ears and nose of the victim removed.

The statement reads in part: “The command regrets to announce the death of one of its NCO, who was among the two missing policemen in the attack of Friday, February 9, 2018.

“He was found brutally slaughtered, with both eyes and ears as well as nose removed.

“However, the police force remains committed to its statutory and daunting obligation of ensuring security as well as protection of life and property of all and sundry.”

The gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, in the afternoon of the fateful day ambushed the police team and burnt the patrol vehicle.

Of the four officers initially declared missing, two later returned unhurt. As at press time, the search for the last officer was ongoing.
