Police bust kidnapping, robbery syndicate in Kano

The Police command in Kano has apprehended 90 criminal syndicates, including high profile kidnappers and armed robbery suspects in Kano.

The command also arrested suspected dealers with counterfeit drugs and recovery of 14 sacks of 50kg of Indian hemp with street value of N5 million. Addressing a press conference at the Bompai headquarters of the command, commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu revealed that a special task force at various places carried out the arrest before, during and after the Sallah period.

According to Iliyasu, detectives of the command arrested one Nuhu Abdullahai, a ringleader of syndicates and notorious armed robber at Zango Dakata quarters in the metropolis, following intelligence reports.

The suspect, who was said to have been terrorizing the inhabitants of Naibawa, Dorayi, Unguwa Uku and Sallari quarters in the ancient city; was found with 22 live cartridges, 7 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one pump action riffle and other local weapons. Iliyasu said another 25 suspects were nabbed around the emir’s palace in connection with the Hauwa Dauche durbar where one person reportedly died and several persons injured. He said the arrested were found with knives, Gariyo, cutlasses, sticks, charms and drugs.

The police boss revealed that one Mohammed Mustapha, a notorious black smith was arrested after five years of close trailing. He said the suspect was at Tamburawa village in Kano, with dangerous weapons.
