Police begin recruitment of 10, 000 personnel

IGP commissions 260 housing units

Directive by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the last National Security Summit, that 10,000 graduates be recruited into the Nigeria Police, will be implemented from today as police opens a website for the recruitment.

A statement issued yesterday in Abuja, by the Assistant Director, Press and Public Affair Ikechukwu Ani, said the chairman of the commission Mike Okiro, had directed that “any misconduct during the exercise will be sanctioned, in line with the public service rules

Urging its staff to live above board in the recruitment exercise, the commission pledged to ensure the success of the presidential assignment, in line with its resolution to discharge its duties within the ambit of the law, transparently, and according to laid down rules.”

The commission also warned intending applicants “to desist from indulging or inducing the staff of the commission, as anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted.”

While explaining that the police in Nigeria at this time, deserves the best brain, Okiro reiterated that there will be no short cut in the exercise, as everything has been put in place to ensure that the integrity of the process will be preserved at all stages of the exercise.

In a related development, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase has commissioned 260 housing units for all cadres of policemen in Abuja, as it marks the 2016 police week.

The housing units, located at the Brick City Housing Estate in Kubwa, Abuja, was delivered to police officers across all cadres by the Nigeria Police Multipurpose Cooperative Society.

The units comprising 96 units of one-bedroom units, 40 two bedroom flats, 44 two bedrooms semi-detached flats, 56 three bedroom semi detached houses, and 24 three bedroom fully detached bungalows, are serviced with good infrastructure.

Arase said the need to address the housing needs of the police, was one of the first issues he vowed to tackle on assumption of office, and in line with the Federal Government commitment to uplifting the rural and urban housing deficits.

“Police, through the cooperative society, have so far acquired and are developing 4,388 units in 22 estates across the country. Over 700 units have been fully constructed under my administration, while 2,291 units are at various stages of construction,” Arase added.
