Police arrest man for allegedly attempting to set mother ablaze

Police operatives in Imo State, at the weekend, arrested one Johnbosco Ejiogu of Umudagu Mbieri, Mbaitoli Council of Imo State, over a case of attempted murder of his mother, Pauline Ejiogu.

Police operatives in Imo State, at the weekend, arrested one Johnbosco Ejiogu of Umudagu Mbieri, Mbaitoli Council of Imo State, over a case of attempted murder of his mother, Pauline Ejiogu.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Orlando Godson Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident, Ejiogu, on Friday, April 24, allegedly locked his mother in a room, poured fuel and set her ablaze, before she was saved by youths in the community.

Ikeokwu, in a statement said: “On Friday, at about 10. 20, headquarters, operatives of Mbieri Divisional headquarters, while reacting to a distress call arrested the suspect and rescued the victim.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Johnbosco Ejiogu stabbed his mother Pauline Ejiogu as a result of an altercation, he went further to lock the door behind himself and the victim, and then set the house ablaze, but they were rescued alive sequel to the swift reaction of the officers and men of the Division, and the members of the neighbourhood. However, both of them have been taken to the hospital for treatment, while investigations have commenced.”
