Police arrest hoodlums who robbed The Guardian Editor

Barely 24 hours The Guardian newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Debo Adesina, was robbed in broad daylight on Oshodi Bridge, the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Command have arrested the traffic robbers.

The Guardian had reported earlier how the robbers took to their heels immediately after dispossessing Adesina of his phones and other valuables.

According to witnesses and victims, the hoodlums had a swell moment going from car to car, smashing windscreens and collecting valuables from innocent motorists.

The suspects, according to the operatives were arrested at the scene in Oshodi Oke while attempting to escape.

The three suspects, two of whom are ex-convict released weeks ago include: Samson Oyelayo (22), Tunde Segun (20 ) and Ayo Omoniyi (24) were arrested around 4: 00 pm on Wednesday.

According to one of the suspects, Samson Oyetayo, who Adesina gave N2000 along with a colleague still at large, “I begged him to assist me with money for food, the man rolled down and gave my friend and I N2000. Meanwhile, this was in traffic facing Gbagada.

Unknown to me, some of my friends, had opened his vehicle door from the passenger side, stole his mobile phone and escaped.

Unknown to them, RRS riders had seen them. They arrested Tunde Segun and myself. They recovered the phone from Segun immediately”.

The suspects revealed that a new tactic used to rob motorists in Oshodi was to distract them while in traffic for other gang members to steal from their vehicle.

Recovered from the suspects were the victim’s Samsung S8 mobile phne and wallet containing his ID card, 4 ATM cards and various complementary cards.
