Police arrest five suspects over gang clash at Aguda

Detectives yesterday arrested no fewer than five persons over gang clash in Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos.

The Lagos State police spokesman, Bala Elkana, who made the disclosure noted that Aguda Police Station received a distress that a group of youths from Ijesha and Aguda areas engaged themselves in a free-for-all fight at the boundary between Ijesha and Aguda.
 
“Police patrol teams from Ijesha and Aguda were promptly drafted to the scene. The situation was brought under control. Glasses of three shots were shattered with stones thrown by the hoodlums at each other.  

“Five suspects namely Lekan Abiose, 30, of No. 25 Adeola Street ltire; Ahmed lsiaka, 37, of No. 47 Animashaun Street ljeshatedo; Aro Rasaq, 28, of No. 40 Ronke Street, ltire; Gideon Agwu, 32, of No 10. Alhaji Mukaila Street, Iba new site, Okokomaiko and Temileyin Odulawo, 19, of No. 57 Sanya Street, Aguda were arrested. 

“Investigation revealed that some members of the two rival groups fought in Efo get-together party organized by one Buky and Baba Sunday on Easter day at Ijesha area, where one Ijesha youth was injured. 

“The injured person mobilized his friends on a revenge mission to Aguda on Monday morning, which led to the fracas. Investigation is ongoing and the command has launched a manhunt of other fleeing suspects”. 

Meanwhile, detectives attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS) of the Zone 2 police command on engaged in a squabble with suspected cultists around Obada Oko area of Ogun State, which led to the death of a young man.
 
The Guardian gathered that the suspected cultists had ambushed the police team in order to recover their gun taken by the detectives. According to the zonal police spokesperson, Hauwa Idris Adamu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), while attempting to snatch police rifle, a bullet, which ‘accidentally discharged’ hit one of the cultists.
 
“The team had gone to effect an arrest of one Abu a.k.a Regal, a notorious cultist. He, Regal, had been implicated by one Afeez Popoola, a.k.a Level, who had been previously arrested and undergoing investigation by the team; he is said to be the curator of arms and ammunition of the Eiye Confraternity Cassava perch in Ifo axis of Ogun.
 
“The said Abu was arrested by the team while in possession of one locally-made pistol with cartridges kept in a handbag. While the team were taking the suspects to the station along with the recovered items, a renowned tout popularly known as Obasanjo in company of a host of other suspected cult members ambushed the team and launched an attack on them.
 
“One Inspector Sunday Ogundapo, the team leader who happened to be in possession of the recovered exhibits was inflicted with machete injuries on his head. He was about to be dispossessed of his AK47 rifle; in the process of struggling with the mob, a bullet was accidentally discharged hitting one Akeem Akinsanya, he was fatally injured.
 
“The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary for postmortem while members of the gang were arrested and are now under investigation,” Adamu said.
