THE Police Command in Borno said yesterday that it had in its renewed efforts towards crime control and arrested 101 suspects in connection with various criminal activities in the state.

Spokesman of the Command, Mr Isuku Victor, made this known in a statement in Maiduguri, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Victor said that the arrests were an outcome of intensive patrols by the command to enhance policing in the state, adding that it would continue as the Christmas approached.

He noted that due to ongoing military offensive against terrorists in their strongholds, criminals had started relocating, seeking new abodes around the state, but assured that the Command would wage war against them.

He said that the suspects were nabbed during raids at criminal hideouts and black spots across the state.
“Thirty-five suspects have been charged to court and were convicted for various offences.”
“Sixteen cases were sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice, while 50 suspects are still under investigations,’’ he added.

Victor disclosed that one locally-made pistol, with three live cartridges was recovered during one of the raids.
He also said that one Honda Civic salon car with registration number SC 44 AA, one Honda Accord with registration number AE 40 DRA and one Bedford truck with registration number GME 783 XB were recovered during the exercise.

He advised members of the public to always furnish the command with timely and useful information on strangers and suspicious objects around their environment.
