Plateau: Religion should be expunged from Wednesday’s elections, says CP
The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Andie Udie, has warned all political parties, which are going to field candidates for the local council election slated for October 10, that religious issues should be expunged from their actions on that day.
Udie said a situation where prospective candidates would ask for exclusive Muslim votes or Christian votes would not happen before and during the election proper because the candidates are all out to test their acceptance and popularity among the electorate.
He spoke yesterday at the stakeholders’ interactive session at the Police Officers’ Mess in Jos, which was largely boycotted by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the major opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He, however, added that their absence was not deliberate as the parties conventions were still ongoing.
He said that apart from securing the process, every other thing would be left to the politicians to make the game free and peaceful.
