PIND tasks women on partnership for innovation

Foundation for Partnership in the Niger Delta (PIND) has tasked women to build robust partnership for innovative ideas so as to increase efficiency and productivity in their various business enterprises.

PIND Capacity Building Program Manager, Bose Eitokpah, said this in Akure to mark the 2019 International Women’s Day (IWD) outreach for women across the Niger Delta states, noting that the organisation identified the benefits of capacity building, knowledge sharing, knowledge economy and transfer among groups for profit maximization. She, however, disclosed that the event which had over 170 participants, was not only organised for women but also for men so that they can maximize the 2019 IWD theme, “Think equal, build smart and innovate for change.”

According to her, PIND joined the world to commemorate IWD in 2015 and has been promoting the cause of the Niger Delta women in pursuance of the foundation’s four cardinal programs. There were lectures on “innovate to accessing external markets, accessing resources for procuring, agric technology and demonstration and experience sharing on Chorkor oven and smoking kiln among others.

Eitokpah, who is also PIND Gender Mainstreaming Coordinator, urged the women who shared their experiences from their various communities, to develop positive mindset and unwavering commitment to change irrespective of the challenges they encounter.

In related news, SOW&G foundation recently organised a health outreach for women and girls in Sangotedo axis of Ajah, Lagos. The women were taught by seasoned health and nutrition professionals, who admonished them on the prevention of communicable diseases and healthy lifestyles as well as daily maintenance of personal hygiene.

According to the foundation’s secretary, Nedy Akwiwu, “The foundation aims at empowering women and girls everywhere through mentorship, strategic partnerships, poverty alleviation initiatives and trainings.”

Ovo Evbodi, who represented Afonchies Pharmacy, said her organisation partnered with the foundation to conduct free medical tests such as blood pressure, blood glucose levels and malaria. While one of the facilitators, Chief Daniel Olurin stressed that it is important to maintain high level of hygiene especially while cooking. Another facilitator, Tolu Taiwo, added that washing the hands could prevent about 50 percent of the illnesses one can contract. United Nations (UN) representative, Bolanle Olumekor, encouraged the women to ensure their female children are given equal opportunities as the male counterparts.
