NIGER State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has taken the state government to court over the postponement of local government election.

The State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) had on Tuesday shifted the date for the polls from November 7 to January 16, 2016, citing inability of the state government to release funds for the conduct of the election.
The state Independent Election Commission also said that card readers are still being used as exhibits at the various tribunals sitting in the state and therefore will not be ready for the election.

The PDP wants the court to determine by virtue of Section 7(1) of the 1999 constitution as amended, if local government areas in the state can be administered by any system of government other than democratically elected local government councils.

Meanwhile, The Niger State House of Assembly ordered out the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Ibraheem Dooba for his disclose the source of information contained in his press release to the executive committee of the house when he appeared before it.

The Chief Press Secretary was summoned by the house following an interview he granted a national daily (not The Guardian) claiming that the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has sent the list of commissioner nominees to the house for confirmation.
