PDP holds expanded caucus meeting today

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold an expended national caucus meeting today in Abuja.

It is convened to allow party leaders review its performance in the Presidential and National Assembly elections and adopt new measures that could enhance its chances in the governorship and states Assembly polls scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2019.

The Guardian learnt that the party will also deliberate on its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s decision to challenge the outcome of the election in court.

A party source hinted that although there was no going back on the resolve to go to court, the matter would be formally discussed at the meeting.

Also, the alleged continued persecution and intimidation of opposition members through the use of the military, Department of State Services (DSS), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and police, especially as it affects the governorship election in PDP strongholds, would also be a major item on the agenda.

Following the meeting between the Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee and PDP leadership in Atiku’s Abuja residence last week, speculations emerged that the PDP and Atiku may have agreed to abandon the court option based on certain conditions.

But PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, dismissed the speculation, stressing that the PDP would not drop the option of going to court against the outcome of the elections.

To confirm the party’s resolve to challenge the election results in court, Atiku inaugurated his legal team at the weekend headed by Livy Uzoukwu (SAN).
