Even, if you postpone election into all the offices, convention can still go on without the elections. Because the date must be adhered to “ he said.

Amidst intrigues, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will proceed with its national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers state today. The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ali Modu Sheriff has pledged an aggressive reconciliation of various aggrieved factions of the party after today’s convention.

The chairman of the convention organizing committee, Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, told journalists yesterday at the Government House, Port Harcourt that all the governors of the twelve states controlled by the PDP and past governors have already arrived Rivers state for the convention.

Wike, who was accompanied by the governors of Ebonyi, Abia and Akwa Ibom states, explained that the party had filed an appeal and a stay of execution orders in court, challenging the two court orders seeking to stall the holding of the convention.  The governor said all organs of the party recognized by the constitution of the party, including the governors’ forum had earlier met and agreed on the date for the convention.

Accordingly, all these necessary organs of the party are in Port Harcourt for the convention. The PDP planning committee publicity secretary, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, said that due to the conflicting court orders barring the PDP from election into certain offices, the party would still go ahead with the convention today.

“They only said election cannot be held in certain offices. There are two parallel orders. One in Lagos restricting election into certain offices and another in Abuja restricting election into a set of offices, and the offices differ,” he said. “At the convention, there are several other issues on the agenda, election is just one of them.

Even, if you postpone election into all the offices, convention can still go on without the elections. Because the date must be adhered to “ he said. Sheriff said he would work to reconcile the party after he was screened at the Rivers State PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt yesterday.
