PDP candidate challenges Onyejeocha at Abia election tribunal

Mr. Jude Udeachara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has gone to the tribunal to challenge the election of Nkeiru Onyejeocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the February 23, 2019 election.
 
Udeachara is his petition filed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), AC Anaenugwu, submitted that Onyejeocha was not duly elected by majority of lawful/valid votes cast during the election.

His petition stated among others, that the said election “was invalid by reason of corrupt practices, substantial non compliance with the provision of the law particularly the Electoral Act 2010 as amended and guidelines regulating the conduct of the poll issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The electoral umpire is the second respondent in the petition, before the three member Tribunal head by Justice Cornelius Akintayo as the chairman.

Having completed the pre-trial of the petition at its Umuahia High Court venue, the Tribunal said that the trial-proper will commence at a future date.
