Oyo records 61 COVID-19 new cases, discharges 40 patients

The Oyo State Government yesterday said that it had recorded fresh 61 COVID-19 cases. The state governor, Seyi Makinde, who disclosed this in a series of tweets, said that 40 cases tested negative and they have been discharged.

The Oyo State Government yesterday said that it had recorded fresh 61 COVID-19 cases. The state governor, Seyi Makinde, who disclosed this in a series of tweets, said that 40 cases tested negative and they have been discharged. The governor said: “Forty confirmed COVID-19 cases received their second negative test results and have been discharged. This brings the number of discharged cases in Oyo State to 1,120.

“Also, the COVID-19 confirmation tests for 61 suspected cases came back positive.

“So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State as of today is 2,167.”In another development, the state government has commenced recruitment of personnel into its State Security Network, code-named Operation Amotekun.

Amotekun, which was inaugurated on January 9, 2020 in Ibadan, Oyo State, is the security outfit based in all the six states of the South Western Nigeria.
According to the information obtained from the website of the state government, applicants need signatory from a village head and lawmaker representing the area.

The application has the bio-data form, medical and guarantor’s forms. However, the state government’s website did not state requirements or details of the job.

Meanwhile, the state has disclosed its readiness to present students in the state for the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as well as other external examinations.

Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Nureni Adeniran, disclosed this yesterday in Ibadan while leading members of the board and management of SUBEB to Islamic Mission Schools 1 & II, Bode and UMC Demonstration Basic Schools I, II & III, Molete, Ibadan, to warn owners of shanties and illegal structures around the schools’ environments.

He said that judging from the readiness of the state through the preparation of students in all terminal classes, students in the state would face any external examination, including WASSCE and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Adeniran said that the state government would not condone any form of illegality in the education sector, especially in the primary schools across the state.

Also, the state government has declared zero tolerance on filth across the state, vowing to deal with anybody that contravenes the state environmental laws.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju; the newly-appointed Chairman, Oyo State Environmental Taskforce, ACP Francis Ojomo and its Secretary, Mrs. Bukola Areo, who stated this while addressing journalists at the Press Centre, Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, said government was ready to ensure an hygienic and healthy Oyo State to attract more investors.
