IYC Vows To Fish Out Culprits

Nigerians and Bayelsans have continued to express shock and condemnation over the brutal murder of two corp members and the gun shot injuries inflicted on another on Wednesday night by hoodlums in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

While many residents called for a holistic approach to the insecurity that has pervaded the Yenagoa metropolis and its environs in recent times, others called for sterner measures against cultists in the state.

The state government through the Commissioner for Youth Development, Udengs Eradiri, while condemning the attacks on the corp members, described it as a shame and unacceptable. He said Bayelsans and the Ijaws were not known to be violent and promised that the state government will make everything possible to bring the culprits to book.

Udengs made the vow when he led the Special Assistants to the Governor on youths affairs across the eight local government areas and the Central zonal Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC) on a condolence visit to the NYSC office in Yenagoa. Armed robbers at Swali community in Yenagoa killed the two corpers on Wednesday night. Udengs, who is s former IYC president, said Ijaw Youths have resolved to do everything possible to expose and bring the culprits to book, adding that steps are already being taken to join hands with security agencies to comb all parts of the state to apprehend them. He also reiterated the need for parents and guardians to prevail on their children and wards to desist from acts that could jeopardise government’s efforts at achieving enduring peace and accelerated development of the state’s economy.

Responding, State Director of the NYSC, Lotto Bolade, said she is still in shock and yet to ascertain why the Corpers were killed because no item was stolen from their room. She further revealed that the families of the deceased have been contacted and they are demanding justice.
