Osinbajo says Buhari committed to tackling almajiri menace

The wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, has said the present administration under President Buhari is ready to tackle the menace of Almajiri.

The wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, has said the present administration under President Buhari is ready to tackle the menace of Almajiri.

She stated this, yesterday, in Birnin Kebbi, at the second yearly event of Mallpai Foundation, themed: ‘Building a Sustainable Legacy Through Education for the Out-of-School’.

She noted that the case of Almajiri in the north and Areas Boys in the south is becoming worrisome. She urged parents to pay special attention to their children.

In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said illiteracy and lack of basic education remain serious obstacles to Nigeria’s overall development.

The minister, represented by the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-formal Education, Prof. Abba Abubakar Haladu, said the country has the highest proportion of out-of-school children.On his part, Kebbi State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, commended Mrs. Osinbajo for giving the less privileged a sense of belonging.
