Osinbajo launches initiative to support recovery efforts in Northeast

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is set to launch ‘Inclusive Basic Delivery and Livelihood Empowerment Programme for North East Nigeria.

The launch would take place at the Nigeria Country Department premises of the Bank in Abuja today, with governors of the participating states and ministers of related sectors in attendance.

It is financed by the African Development Bank (AFDB), in collaboration with Nigeria’s Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative.

It is aimed at supporting recovery efforts in the region, by addressing and investing in critical areas of infrastructure.

The support will focus mainly on improving food security and nutrition, as well as other components as the restoration and reconstruction of water, sanitation and hygiene, primary healthcare and basic educational services.

Job creation for women, youth and vulnerable populations are also included in the programme.

The Nigeria Inclusive Basic Social Service Delivery and Livelihood Empowerment Integrated Programme seek to mitigate the socio economic vulnerabilities in the northeast engendered by the Boko Haram insurgency.
