The leadership of Tiv community in neighbouring Benue State has appealed to the Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, not to neglect the Tiv in the state but to carry them along.

The Tor-Tiv , Prof. James Ayatse, who made the appeal yesterday at a security meeting between both states in Wukaril Local Council of Taraba, tasked the governor not to edge Tiv out of the state but should endeavour to give them the much-needed attention.

The meeting, which was aimed at finding permanent solutions to the security challenges bedevilling the two states, brought together governors of both states, traditional rulers, security chiefs and top government officials.

He said: “Before colonial rule, the Tiv and Jukun were living together peacefully in this place. Before independence, a good number of Tiv people were administered from Wukari under the traditional authority of the Akp-Uka. Also, a good number of Tiv people are indigenes of Taraba.”

The Tor-Tiv said his people in Taraba would continue to work for the growth of the state.

He urged Ishaku to create a chiefdom for Tiv people of Taraba State.

The paramount ruler, who was represented by the chief of Kwande Local Council of Benue, Ambrose Iortyer, said the Tiv Traditional Council in Benue had created districts for even the Hausa in Agnolotti, the Jukun in Abinse as well as other small tribes, whom he said now sit in the Tiv Traditional Council to deliberate on issues.

Also, the Akp-Uka of Wukari, Sharau Agyu Masa-Ibi, who is also the Chairman, Taraba Traditional Council of Chiefs, pledged the Council would carry everybody along, irrespective of tribes, political parties etc.

Both governors reiterated their determination to continue to ensure peace and stability among the people of the two states.
