Ortom lauds Buhari over order on rifle bearers
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for ordering security operatives to shoot on sight anyone illegally bearing AK-47 rifle.
Ortom gave the commendation yesterday, during a function at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
He stated that the President’s order would reduce the level of criminality and herders’ attacks on Benue communities and other parts of the country.
According to the governor, the order will also make communities safer for displaced farmers to return to their ancestral homes.
BOKO Haram terrorists, yesterday, released Bulus Yikura, just as 26 humanitarian workers were rescued from captivity.
The terrorists abducted Yikura, a pastor of the Ekilisiya Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN), on December 24, 2020, in Chibok, Borno State.
He was billed to be beheaded today in Borno.
The cleric had, in a video clip released penultimate Wednesday in Maiduguri, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Babagana Zulum to help facilitate his release from Boko Haram captivity.
“I have been given a one-week ultimatum today, February 24, 2021. If you want me alive, I beg you, in your capacity as President, Governor and local council chairman to save me from this suffering in captivity,” said the cleric in the video.
According to a security source in Maiduguri, the Department of Security Services (DSS) and the Kalthum Foundation for Peace made the release of cleric possible.
He was kidnapped with six other villagers during the attack on Pemi village and was forced into Sambisa Forest before the release of a video clip.
The video was the third recorded by Boko Haram in which Yikura pleaded for government’s intervention in his release.
MOTHERS for United Nigeria (MUN) has commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies for their roles in the release of Yikura and rescue of 26 humanitarian workers.
The humanitarian workers with international agencies, including United Nations UN), were trapped in their building in Dikwa before the deployment of troops by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Division, Gen. Abdul Khalifa, and the active aerial operation by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) foiled the terrorists’ plot of taking over Dikwa.
MUN stated yesterday that the military’s efforts had continued to give hope to mothers across the country, who were worried over the security challenges.
The statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of MUN, Salamatu Adebayo, assured that mothers across the country would continue to pray for the army’s safety and success in quelling the security situation in the country.
“No mother will be happy with what the country is going through. Some mothers have their sons and daughters in the various arms of the military and in the battlefront. We are worried. We are concerned. We are faint. But we are assured that they are fighting for the good of the country.
“This is time for all mothers to pray for our country and our military personnel, that God will continue to give them wisdom and victory in all fronts,” the statement added.
