OPSH promises security, Kebbi government urges unity

Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), the task force in charge of security operations in Plateau, Bauchi and Southern Kaduna has assured Plateau residents of adequate security and protection of lives and property during the Sallah celebrations.

It gave the assurance during the show of force campaign by the OPSH in Jos metropolis and environs.

Speaking with newsmen, the Operations Officer, Colonel Emmanuel Karau, said after an assessment of the security situation in the area, it was reported that the area was generally calm.

He stressed that the calmness was achieved due to the synergy among security agencies comprising the various security outfits.

Colonel Karau, who represented the OPSH Commander, Major-General Augustine Agundu, said it has been tackling crimes in Jos metropolis and that they would continue to do so.

Consequently, the Sallah celebration in Plateau State was peaceful, as all the praying grounds witnessed a peaceful atmosphere during and after the prayers.

Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, Sheikh Lawal Adam, said this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, which coincided with the Christian worship on Sunday, showed that there must be unity between followers of the two predominant religions in the country.
“There is one Almighty God, which the followers worship in their different ways and which should not cause any division or violence at all.

Also, Spokesman of OPSH in Jos, Major I. A. Shittu, confirmed that the celebration had been very peaceful in all parts of the state, adding that the feat was recorded in collaboration with other security agencies.

Meanwhile, Secretary to the Government of Kebbi State (SSG), Babale Umar Yauri, has enjoined Christians and Muslims in the state to engage in activities that would promote peace, understanding and unity.

In a statement issued yesterday by Permanent Secretary in charge of General Administration, Yakubu Tafida Yauri, the state government stressed that Eid-el-Kabir was a test of faith in commemoration of the sublime submissions of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) to the call for sacrifice.

Yauri urged the people to be vigilant, security conscious and report all suspicious characters, movements and objects to security agents, saying: “Security is everybody’s responsibility, therefore, all hands must be on deck to complement government’s efforts towards safeguarding lives and property.
