Opposition will win Saturday’s presidential election, says Gbenga Daniel

A former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, yesterday boasted that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, would win Saturday’s election.

Daniel, who is the Deputy Chairman, PDP Presidential Campaign Council (South) spoke in an interview with journalists in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

He explained that the PDP has great prospects of winning the presidential election due to the poor performance of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The former governor stressed that the PDP had carried out massive sensitisation and enlightenment campaigns towards convincing the electorate on why they should reject the APC at the polls.

“You can clearly see that our people have become fed up with the current administration at all levels. In Ogun State, in particular, if you see what is going on in the last eight years, you can see that the large section of the state keeps crying marginalisation; you can see that development that we have witnessed has not be even,” he said.

He also said the unemployment rate at the national level has plummeted, even as the security today is nothing to write home about.

He spoke on the economy, which he said has virtually collapsed, adding that with these indices both at the state and national levels, the expectations of the people are not being met.

Daniel stressed that what Nigerians are saying is that they believe they made a mistake in 2015, and they want to correct the mistake.

“Without any doubt, this election is already won. I have been all round the country and I have no doubt that PDP has won this election. The challenge we have is to ensure that rigging is prevented and I’m very sure that Nigerians will not allow that to happen,” he said.

The former governor also warned against manipulating the general elections, stressing that Nigerians are watching the process and would resist any individual, group or institution who attempts to undermine the polls.

Meanwhile, scores of PDP supporters reportedly collapsed amidst stampede by a mammoth at the Sani Abacha Stadium, venue of PDP presidential campaign in Kano.

The rally, which was flooded by seas of Kwankwasiyya supporters in their symbolic red caps and other PDP loyalists, had occupied the venue of the rally as early as 9:a.m to overstretch the capacity of the stadium.

Atiku and his campaign team had paid homage to the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, and the home of political sage, the late Mallam Aminu Kano.
