Opera reaches 120 Million users in Africa
A major browser developer, Opera has presented its state of mobile web 2019 report, which gives a detailed look at the digital landscape of the African region, which shows its growing leadership in the digital transformation of Africa.
The report reveals that in Q1-2019, Opera browsers and standalone news app were used by nearly 120 million users in Africa and by more than 350 million people globally and experienced a user growth of more than 25 percent over a one-year period.
Head of Marketing and Distribution of the firm, Jorgen Arnesen, said they are thrilled about this, saying the new Opera News app has led this positive growth, as well as the introduction of new features to mobile browsers such as a built-in VPN and crypto wallet.
The report also looked into the use of the Opera Mini browser and the Opera browser for Android, which showed that mobile browsing is one of the most popular activities among internet users and on average, users spend more than 30 minutes browsing on a daily basis. The report also revealed that the data compression mode in Opera Mini saved users nearly $100 million of data cost in 2018.
