National Leader of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Prince Osibote, has urged the nation’s leaders to emulate the selfless leadership lifestyle of former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, even as he described him as a quintessential leader, nationalist and pathfinder.

Osibote, who spoke during a courtesy visit to Jakande’s residence in Lagos yesterday, said: “You brought hope to the indigents, who would not have had the opportunity to send their hapless children to school from primary to university level.

“The free education policy of your administration as the governor of Lagos State afforded the children of the poor, the less-privileged and the privileged in the society the ample opportunity and chance to realise their dreams, impact on the society and spread prosperity.

“You are a rare breed with uncommon Midas touch, a legend and an icon. Your tenure as the governor of the state remains the most cherished, talked about, memorable and ingrained in the subconscious of millions of Nigerians and non-Nigerians. Thanks to your distinguished and star performance in critical sectors, including education, healthcare, housing, infrastructure, public utilities, social welfare, sports, transportation and security, which remained the benchmark and template in the history of the state and indeed Nigeria and beyond its shores.

“As a man famous for policies and programmes with human face, you brought governance to the doorsteps of the people. Today, your reputation and name is synonymous with progressive projects and ideas underscored by the limitless monuments and infrastructure.”

The OPC leader, who stated that they were there to further draw and drink from the abundant waters of dignity, honour and integrity that flow like a river in his vein, urged Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to address critical sectors of the economy that would benefit Lagosians, such as road, healthcare system, education, infrastructure, economy, among others.

Meanwhile, while responding, Jakande commended the OPC team for their visit, urging them to continuously visit him.He also relieved the memories of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, describing him a great legend whose legacies would never be forgotten in Yoruba land and Nigeria.
