The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has commenced the fumigation of public spaces in the ancient town of Ile-Ife as he announced the purchase of some disinfecting equipment to combat the spread of the Coronavirus in the country.

The monarch said he had purchased locally-fabricated fumigators and drones worth N8 million and reiterated his commitment towards supporting government both at the federal and state levels with two sets each to fight the dreaded COVID-19 epidemic.

The traditional ruler, who spoke at his palace in Ile-Ife, said that a fumigator cost N2 million for its production and promised to donate two sets each to all the 36 states in the country.

He explained that the local fumigators were made in the palace through the assistance of youths led by Victor Badejo from the Ooni of Ife Global Initiative.

He said the initiative was a calculated effort to combat Coronavirus and also improve the technology of fumigation because the way fumigation is being done in Nigeria has become mockery compared with how it is being done in other western countries.

Oba Adeyeye, who said that the fumigation process would start in Ile-Ife, also promised that the gesture would be extended to the 36 states of the federation.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State COVID-19 task force yesterday said that it had been working assiduously in collaboration with the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan task force team to contain and curtail community spread of Coronavirus.

The Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force Co-ordinator and former Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UCH, Prof. Temitope Alonge, stated this while giving an update on the activities of the state task force at the Governor’s Office, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Alonge explained that the concept and principles adopted by the taskforce from the onset had put into cognisance some factors, such as economic, political and scientific forces, which had greatly helped in curtailing the spread of the virus in the state.

Alonge said the UCH task force was researching into medications and natural home-grown remedies that could boost immunity against the virus.

He also debunked allegations from some quarters that the state’s COVID-19 task force team has not involved other health professionals in the state in its activities to curtail the spread of Coronavirus in the state.
