The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi,Ojaja 11, has appointed Idowu Olaniyi Adediwura as Obalufe of Ife, which is the traditional prime minister and second-in-command to the Oba.

In a release yesterday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs in the Ooni’s palace, Moses Olafare, he said the appointment was in line with the Ife age- long tradition and culture, which make it imperative for the reigning Ooni to appoint the Obalufe whenever vacancy exists for such.

It would be recalled that the former occupant of the referred traditional stool, Oba Folorunso Omisakin, died in the heat of the selection process for the current Ooni, after Ooni Okunade Sijuwade joined his ancestors last year.

The statement said in making the appointment, the Ooni took into cognisance the laws of Osun State, in line with the customs and traditions of the ancient city of Ile-Ife, after a wide consultation with the government, kingmakers and other relevant stakeholders.

Born in 1967 to the family of Afred Tijuara and Mrs Tayelolu Mariani Adediwura, the Obalufe-designate is a trade unionist and labour leader in the maritime sector.

A member of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Adediwura has remained the Tincan Island Container Terminal unit chairman from 1992 till date.

He attended All Saints Primary School, Ilode, Ile-Ife, Oronna High School, Ilaro, Ogun state and Pen Foster Career School in Canada.
